Ceita Corê Waterfalls and Trail

Ceita Corê is the most complete waterfall tour within the municipality of Bonito. On a farm 36 km from the center, the trail runs 4 km round trip through the Chapena Valley, passing seven waterfalls, four suspension bridges and a zipline that ends in the river. Lunch, from a wood-fired stove, is included in the ticket; in the afternoon, those who want to can snorkel at the source of the Chapena River. It is a full day, and a full one.

What the tour is like

Reception is at the farmhouse, with changing rooms, a restaurant and a rest area. The group is given life vests and sets off with the guide along an interpretive trail through the riverside forest, where the stops explain the vegetation and the limestone formation of the valley.

The waterfalls come one after another. There are six swim stops, in pools with rocky bottoms and clear water, with drops ranging from small curtains to falls of a few meters. One stop has a jumping platform; another has the zipline, which launches anyone who wants it over the pool. The suspension bridges cross the river at high points and are the most photographed stretch.

The trail takes around 3 hours and returns to the farmhouse for lunch: farm dishes, slow-cooked beef, arroz carreteiro (rice with beef), cassava and homemade sweets. Then comes the spring, when included: a short, still-water snorkel with mask and snorkel, in water with spring-fed visibility. The farm closes at 5pm.

Best season and time of day

Between February and April the waterfalls carry more water; between May and September the water is clearer and the trail drier and more comfortable. July has cold mornings that delay the first swim. Since departure is early and the tour takes the whole day, do not book anything for the afternoon or early evening.

Tickets are sold by Bonito’s licensed agencies under the single-voucher system, at the same price everywhere for each package. Ceita Corê, Rio do Peixe or Estância Mimosa?

All three are waterfall days with a farm lunch. Rio do Peixe is easier and more focused on swimming; Estância Mimosa has a similar trail and tall-forest scenery; Ceita Corê has the longest trail, the most activities and the spring. Is it worth it?

Yes, for anyone with four days or more who enjoys hiking. In a 4-day itinerary it fits well on the third day, between a river snorkel and the Blue Lake Cave. It is not worth it for anyone who just wants to get in the water without effort, nor for short trips, where Parque das Cachoeiras delivers a morning of waterfalls 18 km from the center.
