Formoso Adventure (Bonito Aventura): Zipline and Canopy Course

Bonito Aventura is the name that stuck for the canopy course and zipline circuit in the riverside forest of the Formoso River, about 7 km from the center of Bonito. It is the most accessible high-ropes tour in town: no rappel, no strict minimum age and only half a day. Agencies now sell the circuit under the commercial names of the park where it operates, but the experience is the same: hike, climb, fly along a long zipline, cross platforms between the trees and finish by floating down the river.

What the tour is like

The group leaves the visitor center on foot, along a trail of about 1.5 km through the Formoso’s riverside forest, to a lookout at the top of a hill. The hike is the most demanding stretch of the tour, with a moderate climb, and serves as a warm-up.

At the lookout is the zipline platform. The line runs over 500 meters, crossing the treetops and the river to the next platform. From there the suspended trail begins: bridges, cables and walkways linking platforms fixed to the trees a few meters off the ground, always with your carabiner clipped to the safety line.

The circuit ends at the riverbank, where the group swaps the harness for a life vest and floats down a stretch of the Formoso, through two gentle rapids, to the exit. A short walk leads back to the visitor center, where there is a restaurant, changing rooms and the park’s lagoon for anyone who wants to stay.

Weight and footwear rules

Unlike most Bonito tours, the restriction here is not by age but by weight: the zipline operates in an approximate range of 20 kg to 110 kg (about 44 to 243 lb). Children between 20 kg and 40 kg ride tandem with an instructor, at the group leader’s discretion. Shoes that stay on your feet are mandatory from start to finish, including the float down the river. Pregnant women do not take part, and people with reduced mobility should check with the agency first, because the park asks for advance notice to adapt the service.

Best season and time of day

Since the circuit is in the forest and ends in the water, the tour is good year-round. Between April and October the weather is drier and the river clearer. In summer, late-afternoon storms can suspend the zipline; go in the morning. The float down the river is more pleasant on hot days.

Is it worth it?

Yes, for anyone who wants adrenaline without the physical and financial commitment of the Anhumas Abyss or the rappel at Boca da Onça. It is also the adventure tour that best accommodates families, because light children ride the zipline tandem with an instructor. Combined with river tubing on the Formoso, which leaves from the same park, it makes a full day without changing location.
