Emergency and Useful Phone Numbers in Bonito, Brazil

Bonito, Brazil is a quiet town and its tours are well organized, with guides and small groups. Even so, it is worth having the right numbers on your phone before you leave home. Emergencies: the three numbers that matter

Brazil splits emergencies across different numbers. Save these three:

Calls are free, even from a phone with no credit. If unsure whether to call 192 or 193, call either: the call centers pass the case on. If you don’t speak Portuguese, ask a local, your guide or your guesthouse to call for you.

Health care

Hospital Darci João Bigaton serves the town. More complex cases are transferred to Campo Grande, the state capital, about 300 km away. Three health points that matter on this trip:

• Travel insurance. The Environmental Conservation Fee includes personal accident insurance, covering accidental death and disability and ambulance service from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to City Hall. For medical costs, evacuation and luggage, buy travel insurance and save the policy number and assistance line on your phone.
• Tour restrictions. Snorkeling and diving have restrictions for pregnant women, people with heart conditions or epilepsy and anyone who has had recent surgery. Tell your agency when booking.
• Heat and roads. In summer, temperatures can exceed 35 °C: hat, water and sunscreen after snorkeling. Roads have dirt stretches, dust and animals crossing; drive in daylight.

On tours: no signal, talk to your guide

In town and at guesthouses, internet and mobile coverage are good. At rural attractions, signal is often weak or nonexistent. So:

• If you feel unwell or have an accident during a tour, tell the guide or attraction staff immediately. They know the site and the nearest spot with signal.
• Save vouchers offline and keep your agency’s WhatsApp number written down somewhere besides your phone.
• If you rent a car, download offline maps of the region before setting out.

• Lost or stolen documents: file a police report (boletim de ocorrência) with the Civil Police. You will need it for replacements and insurance claims.
