Nascente Azul Spring Snorkeling and River Park

Nascente Azul (“Blue Spring”) is the Bonito tour that combines a guided river snorkel and a day-use river park on the same ticket. The snorkel is short and takes place in a spring of intense blue, about 7 meters deep, followed by a stretch of shallow river. The park, with flowing-water pools, restaurant and hammocks, is what makes this a full-day outing if you want it to be. It sits about 32 km from the town center, on the road to Bodoquena.

What the tour is like

At reception the group collects wetsuit, vest, mask and snorkel, listens to the briefing and follows a short trail of about 300 meters to the spring. You enter the water from a dock. The spring is the highlight: a deep blue pool with sand shifting on the bottom where the water wells up. The guide usually lets anyone who wants to free-dive for a few seconds.

From there the group floats with the current along a stretch of shallow river, with aquatic plants and small to medium fish. Time in the water is 30 to 40 minutes. That is not much compared with Rio da Prata, and it is worth knowing before you book.

After the float, the ticket gives you access to the park: natural pools of flowing water, a shallow area for children, a hammock area, a short zipline and a restaurant with lunch charged separately. The facilities are among the most complete in the region, with wheelchair-accessible sections and hot-water showers.

Rules in the water

The rules are the same as for every river snorkel: no sunscreen or repellent on your body before entering the spring (the shower at reception is there for that), mandatory vest, guide at the front of the group and no touching fish, plants or the bottom. Heavy rain clouds the water and can suspend the snorkel; the park usually stays open.

Best season and time of day

Like every spring-fed river in the region, Nascente Azul is more predictable in the dry season, May to September. In the rainy months the blue is still there, but visibility can drop for a day or two after storms. Price

The reference price, in Brazilian reais (BRL), is in the info box on this page with the date it was checked, and corresponds to the snorkeling ticket with park access included. There is a park-only ticket, much cheaper, for those who will not snorkel. Lunch and transport are charged separately. Tickets are bought through a licensed agency at the same price everywhere, under Bonito’s single-voucher system.

Nascente Azul, Sucuri River or Rio da Prata?

If the goal is the snorkel itself, the Sucuri River has clearer water and a longer route, and Rio da Prata is the most complete river in the region. Nascente Azul loses on both counts but wins on facilities and time you can spend there: it is the only one of the three where staying all day makes sense. For groups with small children, grandparents or people who will not get in the river, that matters more than the meters of floating.

Is it worth it?

Yes, on one condition: treat it as a river-park day with a snorkel included, not as “the” snorkel of your trip. If you are in Bonito for two or three days and only have time for one river, choose Sucuri or Prata. If you are staying longer, traveling as a family or want a slow-paced day, this is the best balance of facilities and price you will find.
