The Salobra Canyons (Cânions do Salobra) are on Fazenda Remanso, a ranch in the municipality of Bodoquena, about 72 km from Bonito. The main tour is “acqua trekking”, as it is sold locally: a hike inside the Salobra River, between walls of limestone, with swimming stops along the way. There is also a descent by “duck” kayak, an inflatable kayak. It is one of the most physical tours in the region and one of the least known among first-time visitors to Bonito.

All include a licensed guide, a high-buoyancy life vest, 4x4 transport from the base to the trail, swimming stops and a ranch lunch cooked on a wood-fired stove. Morning tours include a snack.
What the route is like
The group leaves the base in a 4x4 vehicle to the starting point. From there on, most of the route is in the river: walking over rocks, stretches with water up to your waist and pools where the vest keeps you afloat. In places the canyon walls rise more than 100 meters. The guide sets the pace and the stops.
Who it suits
People with reasonable fitness who want something different from the classic river snorkels and trails. The agency we consulted gives a minimum age of 7 and advises against it for sedentary people, pregnant women, people with heart conditions and anyone with injuries or reduced mobility. Closed shoes are mandatory.

How to fit it into your itinerary
Because of the distance, the Salobra Canyons take the whole day. They make sense on trips of seven days or more, or if you are staying overnight in Bodoquena. Practical tips
- Closed shoes that can get wet are mandatory. Most of the route is in the water, over rocks.
- Choose the 3 km version if your group is not used to walking. The 6 km version takes about 5 hours.
- Bring a dry bag for your phone and documents. There is nowhere to keep anything dry along the route.
- After heavy rain the river rises and the tour may be rescheduled. Leave some slack in your itinerary.

Getting there
Located at Fazenda Remanso, in rural Bodoquena, about 38 km from the town of Bodoquena and 72 km from Bonito. From the attraction's base to the trailhead, transport is in the tour's own 4x4 vehicle.

What is river trekking (acqua trekking)?
It is a hike done inside the river, walking and sometimes swimming short stretches with the current. At the Salobra Canyons, most of the route is in the water, between rock walls, always with a life vest and a guide.
