In Bonito, Brazil, choosing an agency is not about finding the cheapest ticket, because tickets cost the same everywhere. It is about who will handle your logistics: transport, time slots, rebooking and support when plans change. This guide covers what to compare, how to check that an agency is legitimate and which offers to be wary of.
Guia de Bonito does not sell tours and takes no commission on ticket sales. Agencies may appear on this site as advertisers, and when they do they are always labeled Sponsored.
Why you need an agency
Since 1995 Bonito has run on the single-voucher system: no attraction admits visitors without a voucher issued by a licensed agency based in town. The voucher records the tour, date, time and number of people, which is how each attraction keeps to its daily visitor cap. Even the Municipal River Beach requires a voucher for visitors.
You can plan the trip without a package, booking lodging and transport on your own, but tours go through an agency. What you can and cannot do independently is covered in Bonito without a tour agency.
Ticket prices are the same everywhere
Each attraction sets its price, valid at every licensed agency. The full table is in Bonito tour prices. What differs between agencies is what comes with the ticket, and that is what you should compare.
What to compare
- Transport and its price. Most price lists do not include it. Ask the price per trip, whether it is shared or private, and whether there is a discount for combining tours in the same area. A R$ 470 tour can pass R$ 600 per person with transport.
- Group size and van route. Shared transport usually leaves around 7 a.m. and stops at several hotels, which can add 40 minutes. Ask how many people ride in the vehicle and when it picks you up.
- Time slots. A good agency fits tours together without clashes, places your main tour mid-trip and avoids two distant attractions on the same day.
- Cancellation policy in writing. Each agency has its own. In high season the free-cancellation window can be 15 to 20 days, and no-shows are usually charged in full. Get the rules in writing before paying.
- Rebooking for rain or cloudy water. Heavy rain can cloud the rivers for a few days. Ask how the agency rebooks, whether it swaps to another tour (a cave or waterfall) and how fast it refunds when the attraction cancels. See also Bonito on a rainy day.
- Languages. Many agencies work in English and Spanish. If nobody in your group speaks Portuguese, confirm who will answer during the trip, not only during the sale.
- WhatsApp and on-trip support. WhatsApp is the standard channel in town. Check that the number answers on weekends and early in the morning, when tours start.
- Special needs. Small children, seniors or reduced mobility: say so when booking. Attractions need to set aside equipment and a trained guide.
How to check that an agency is licensed
- Look it up on Cadastur. Cadastur is the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism’s official registry of tourism businesses, mandatory for travel agencies. The public search at cadastur.turismo.gov.br (in Portuguese) lets you search by CNPJ or name and see the activity, the municipality and whether the registration is valid. Ask the agency for its CNPJ before paying; a legitimate business will share it.
- Confirm it is based in Bonito and issues vouchers. Only agencies based in Bonito issue vouchers. If you are dealing with a company elsewhere or a resale website, ask which local agency will issue your vouchers and check that one too.
- Insist on the voucher. After payment you should receive one voucher per tour, showing the attraction, date, time and number of people. A payment receipt is not a voucher.
Red flags
- A ticket “cheaper” than the official price. Since prices are fixed, a big discount on a single ticket makes no sense. A discount on a package or on transport can.
- Pix to a private individual, with no voucher. Pix is Brazil’s instant bank transfer. Paying a personal account of a “seller” who does not issue a voucher in an agency’s name is a typical scam pattern.
- A promised spot on a sold-out tour. Attractions control capacity. If every agency says there is no space, whoever promises to “get you in” cannot deliver.
- Pressure and missing details. Refusing to give a CNPJ, address or cancellation policy is reason enough to walk away.
Where to check complaints
Two Brazilian tools show a company’s track record: consumidor.gov.br, the federal government’s public complaints platform, and Reclame Aqui. Both are in Portuguese; search by name and CNPJ. Look less at the number of complaints and more at the type of problem and whether the company replies and resolves it. Keep chats, receipts and vouchers until the end of your trip.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to use a tour agency in Bonito?
For tours, yes. Since 1995 attractions only admit visitors with a voucher, and vouchers are issued by licensed agencies based in Bonito. You can arrange lodging and transport yourself, but tours go through an agency.
Is there a cheaper agency in Bonito?
Not for tickets: each attraction sets its voucher price and it is the same at every licensed agency. Price differences come from transport, multi-tour packages and extra services. Compare the total including transport, not the ticket.
How can I tell if a Bonito agency is legitimate?
Ask for its CNPJ (Brazilian company tax number) and look it up on Cadastur, the Ministry of Tourism registry, to see whether it is listed as a travel agency in Bonito, Mato Grosso do Sul, with a valid registration. Also confirm that it issues the voucher itself, showing the attraction, date, time and number of people.
Can I book tours with different agencies?
You can, but you lose the main advantages. With one agency, time slots do not clash, transport is combined on the same route and, if rain cancels a tour, the whole plan is rebooked together. With several, every change is a separate negotiation.
What happens if it rains or the water turns cloudy?
The attraction decides whether the tour runs. If it cancels, the agency rebooks or refunds you. If the tour runs and you decide not to go, the agency's cancellation policy applies, so get it in writing before paying.
